My IMC Posting, The Joy Formidable Rocks Brooklyn!

For those who aren't familiar with this name, I think you should be, so let me give you the 411. The Joy Formidable is a Welsh alternative rock band, formed in 2007 in North Wales and is currently based out of London, England. There's Rhiannon "Ritzy" Bryan, the stunning lead vocal goddess. Rhydian Dafydd, the charming lead guitarist and backup vocalist. And last, but certainly not least, the tantalizing long haired drummer, Matthew James Thomas. They stole many people's hearts at Flood Fest 2015. Performing with groups', Oscar as well as Grace Mitchell at Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, NY last Thursday. (Oct. 15th)

There is a reason I felt the need to create such a clear mental image when describing this trio to you. They make an overt effort to perform as a group, all together, while honoring each others talents. The traditional on "stage setup" consists of the lead vocalists being the most obvious front and center, the guitarist on more to the side and then, of course, the drummer located on the back side of the stage. But The Joy Formidable doesn't play by any normal rules. They are sure to line the group up alongside each other so that they are all at an equal distance from attendees. They make you feel like you're watching three best friends jam out together! They make you want to jump on stage, pick up an instrument and jam out with them!

While performing 'Maw Maw Song,' a track from their 2013 album entitled, Wolfs Law, I'm pretty sure every single person was air guitar rocking. It was hard not to, the energy in the room seemed to captivate every person attending, completely. After closing the show, the band kindly walked off stage thanking everyone for coming out. But people did not want to say goodbye, for over 10 minutes there was cheering, clapping and smiling faces everywhere. Nobody was ready to say goodbye! When it felt like people were just beginning to lose hope, the band stepped back onto the stage to encore with a crowd favorite, 'Whirring.' And I'm sure you can imagine that the excitement in the room was amazingly overwhelming!

I Am Just

I am

just this moment,

this second in time.

I am faceless, without despair.

For this right here is not my moment, this right here is THE moment

Where everything is as it it's supposed to be, without discontentment.

Only within the depths of my soul can I truly ever be one within this moment
                      right now..
                             nothing else

The smell of the air, the feeling of those movements as the wind pushes around my hair

the sun shines for me

All continuous energy. All connected and embodied to create this simulation of light and matter.

Mind rules over all matter

Thoughts create immanent things

So ask me not what I am. Ask me in truth what I choose to be.

I choose to be

this moment alone...

nothing more, nothing less.

                                I am just.

"No Freedom Till We're Equal, Damn Right I Support It."

"I can't change, even if I tried, even I wanted to. My love, my love, my love, she keeps me warm."

I find it fitting that my video of the week is based upon the newest change that has taken effect on our country. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis wrote this song over two years ago, they've been pushing for change since before we even got close to legalizing equal rights marriage.

If you watch until the end of this music video, the artists partake in a giant celebration between two men who have finally been able to solidify their love. This is an amazing, inspiring, beautiful song and music video. I am so proud to take part in the generation who has been some what responsible for the uprising of C H A N G E.

"Only the Mountain knows"-Ger McDonnell

This new post isn't necessarily pertaining to music but it's still important. I just recently watched a documentary/movie about a terrible day in August of 2008 where eleven hikers were killed attempting to scale K2. For those who don't know, K2 is the second largest mountain in the world, located in Pakistan. [The first largest being Mount Everest in Nepal]

K2 is located near Everest but is known for it's dangerous reputation.

One out of every four people that attempt to climb it, will die.

Something really drew me into watching this movie, I think partly it was because I was so intrigued by these climbers' desire to keep on going no matter what. Numerous trials and tribulations suggested that they should turn back, but they never did. Something inside them needed to reach the top.

One of the saddest parts about this day to me is that 18 people made it to the top but only 11 made it down. They say descending a mountain is the most dangerous part, I guess they were right.

The main reason I wanted to write about this is for one sole purpose, an Irish man named Ger McDonnell. He was the first ever from his country to have made it to the top of K2.

He was a very experienced climber who'd previously climbed Everest. Friends said he was one of those people that walked into a room and had an energy about him that was contagious. He was goofy, happy and always bringing positive vibes. Much like a person I know in my life. Maybe that is why this story struck me so intensely, because he reminds me of my love; Landon.

Something that was said at the end of this documentary inspired me to document this for myself..

"If it takes 100 years, the truth will have to be recognized by those to whom that the verdict of history belongs."

I believe history belongs to us right now and I want to pass on and recognize true heroes in any way I can.

Throughout the years the real story as to what exactly happened to Ger McDonnell continued to change. Until his family travelled to across the world to find Ger's Sherpa friend that happened to be the last person alive that could shed some light on that day for the family. Perma told them that when Ger began descending he came across two injured and one deceased climber that was apart of the Korean group. He refused to leave their side, he helped carry the two survivors down the side of the mountain and over to where he could see the rescue helicopter landing.

                                                In one moment, everything changed.

Some of the mountains ice began to melt off & turned into a small avalanche that took Ger and the two men down the mountain passed where Perma was descending. That is when Ger McDonnell lost his life. If he had stayed with his team there is a good chance he would still be alive today. He couldn't leave these people that he barely knew behind. I think that needs to be recognized and documented in any way possible.

True heroes are rare in this world

They leave their marks of inspiration

They leave behind that small piece of hope
Ger McDonnell 1971-2008

"When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home."- Tecumseh
